Qualitative Analysis need help! trying to determine unknown chemical compound?
okay so far heres what I know:
White Crystalline Solid (needle-like crystals)
Melting Point: ~89.5-90.5 C.
HNMR results: apparent quartet from 6.5-7.9ppm, triplet 1.3ppm, quartet 4.3ppm. possible singlet 1.43ppm.
IR: N-H stretch 3300-3400cm-1, C=O stretch 1700cm-1
GC-MS: major peaks m/z = 65, 92, 120, 137, 165
Solubility Class IV (aromatic amines/heterocycles/weak organic bases.) found the unknown has an amino functionality in it.
performed Hinsberg test and possibly have a secondary amine.
Negative results when testing for nitriles and amides
Sodium Fusion test came up negative for Sulfur, Halogens, but Nitrogen came up negative as well?(does not correlate with other results??)
Going to test for ketones and esters in a few minutes
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
